As an owner-managed, medium-sized company, we live by strong values that put people and their environment first. Environmental and social responsibility are deeply anchored in our company culture.

And we see fulfilling this responsibility as one of the most important tasks of our time. The range of social and environmental initiatives that we actively support shows how serious we are about pursuing our charitable goals. We are extremely motivated to tackle some of the most urgent problems facing society.

(People Campaign)

Diversity and inclusion are integral parts of our company culture. So naturally, we jumped at the chance to get behind “Aktion Mensch” (People Campaign), which supports up to 1,000 social initiatives for people with disabilities, children and young people every month, to help them live well and thrive at school, at work or in their leisure time — without barriers and with the freedom to make independent decisions about their lives.

(Crisis Chat)

During the first coronavirus lockdown, there was an increase in reports of domestic violence in Germany. The nascent Berlin-based non-profit “krisenchat” (Crisis Chat) recognised that many children and young people urgently needed easy access to help and support. So, a service was set up where experienced psychologists volunteer their time to provide children and young people with free, confidential advice. The service, which helps to significantly improve young people’s resilience, is a cause close to our hearts, and we’re proud to provide it with financial support.

Chancenstiftung
(Opportunity Foundation)

Many young people still don’t enjoy equal access to quality education. This inequity can prevent children and young people from less privileged families from acquiring critical social and intercultural skills, resulting in damaging long-term effects on society as a whole.

That’s why we’re supporting “Chancenstiftung” (Opportunity Foundation) as an educational sponsor for young people, who receive intensive, individual support as part of their scholarships.

To us, ecological sustainability is not a passing phase.
It’s a responsibility.

The earth’s resources are finite. As a sustainable company, we’re conscious of our obligations towards the planet. We select suppliers based on strict environmental criteria and reduce our carbon emissions wherever possible. If we can’t cut them, we offset them. When it comes to packaging, we opt for solutions that use as little material as possible, that are ideally made from recycled materials, which can be recycled again themselves.

But our commitment goes far beyond our own actions. We specifically look for organisations that are actively and sustainably involved in environmental and climate protection and support their work financially. We have developed an intensive selection process in order to network with suitable partner organisations. The passion of the people behind each project is just as important to us as the project itself.

Climate-neutral Germany
GermanZero e.V.

The vision is just as ambitious as the objective: GermanZero e.V. aims to achieve a climate-neutral Germany by 2035. With a 1.5-degree legislative package and more than 200 specific measures developed by over a 100 scientists and experts, this ambitious goal is now within realistic reach. Our donation supports this independent climate protection organisation in shaping a sustainable, climate-neutral future and strengthening Germany’s role as a leader in climate protection.

Carbon offsetting

Working with a team of independent experts, we calculated our company’s carbon footprint based on the internationally recognised Greenhouse Gas Protocol. We then used this to define smart goals and measures to reduce and offset our carbon emissions. Next, we offset our carbon emissions for the years 2019 to 2022 in full using high-quality carbon certificates. These certificates go towards financing projects in developing and emerging countries that, in addition to climate action, help improve the living conditions of people in those regions.

Our employees selected three different reforestation projects for the company to financially support.

Climate protection project
CO₂OL Tropical Mix

This environmental initiative was one of the first projects in Panama to be certified with the renowned Gold Standard for land use activities and nature-based solutions.

Land in Panama that has been extensively cleared and used for rearing cattle is being replanted with indigenous tree species and gradually transformed into mixed forest — preserving biological diversity and restoring a healthy forest ecosystem.

Climate protection project
Re-Spire Westerwald

The Westerwald forest on the banks of the Rhine in Germany has lost an estimated 90% of its spruce trees in the last three years as a result of storms, drought and a bark beetle infestation. As well as creating enormous bare patches in the woodlands, this also represents a serious threat to the region’s ground water supply. Through our donations we’re helping to make these areas green again, cultivate a robust mixed forest and secure long-term carbon savings.

Climate protection project
Uchindile & Mapanda

In the Southern Highlands in Tanzania, East Africa, we’re supporting a reforestation project in the degraded grasslands of Uchindile and Mapanda.

Land that’s been used for timber is being replanted with a range of exotic and indigenous tree species, as well as indigenous varieties of fruit, to improve biodiversity and ensure the health and resilience of the land. Locals will be able to use these new forests for sustainable farming, providing them with reliable, long-term opportunities to make a living.
